Title: "Holding the Light"
Material: Aluminum on Maple Base
Dimensions:
Overall: 29 1/4"High
Figure: 27 1/2" High x 12 1/2" Wide x 5" Thick
Base: 1 3/4" x 10 3/4" x 16 1/4"
Signed and Dated: Under base of Aluminum Figure
Completed: February, 2004
Notes: This sculpture of solid metal is figure-like. It cradles a sphere in a protective posture as it appears to move forward. The work was created by welding together cut-out pieces of 1/2" thick aluminum plate which were then covered with multiple layers of weld. The ripples which occur naturally during the welding process, add to the texture and reflect light in a defused and shimmering manner.

Title: "Interconnected"
Material: Oxidized Steel
Dimensions: 6 ft 6" High x 2 ft Wide at Base
Signed and Dated: On small piece of metal in middle of work.
Completed: December, 2001
Notes: This sculptural work was created between September and December, 2001. Comprised of hundreds of triangles made from 1/4 inch and 5/16 inch round steel rod, the work is largely rigid but does have free-swinging, smaller triangles. "Interconnected" sprang spontaneously from my reaction to the many events embodied in the tragedy of September 11th, 2001. Not unlike the man in "CLose Encounters of the Third Kind", I labored obsessively on the structure that I did not, nor could not intellectualize. Having said that I, would point out that the composition starts out at the top with a few simple forms and multiplies in complexity as the direction of the triangles lead the eye to the base.
